A special session of the Portland School Board was called to officially approve the appointment to the position vacated by Dr. Guadalupe Guerrero in February. Since Guerrero’s departure, the district has been headed up by Dr. Sandy Husk as interim superintendent.
A nationwide search has been underway for several months to fill the position and PPS issued the following statement to PPS stakeholders:
“The Board led a comprehensive and inclusive selection process, guided by clear criteria for finding an authentic and inclusive, transparent, fiscally accountable educational leader committed to advancing equity. A nationwide search culminated in a series of staff, student, and community engagement with the final candidates.”
Administrative changes to an organization or institution result in a surprising number of Stationery changes requiring the assistance of printing services.
The field of candidates had been narrowed to three; however, one of the candidates, Dr. Iton Udosenata, the Salem-Keizer Public Schools deputy superintendent accepted the position of Tigard-Tualatin School District thereby reducing the field to two applicants. The chosen candidate, Dr. Armstrong formerly held the position of PPS Chief Academic Officer for the 2022-2023 school year before assuming her current position as Deputy Superintendent for Evergreen Public Schools.
No exact date was given for when Dr. Armstrong would assume the mantel of Portland Public Schools Superintendent.
