Forget New York City and Chicago and even New Haven – according to Francisco Migoya and Nathan Myhrvold the co-authors of Modernist Pizza, right here in Portland is the best place for a pizza lover to be.
A city always wants to advertise having or being the best of anything, so brochure printing services are frequently given updated information.
Migoya and Myhrvold traveled the country from coast to coast trying nearly 400 pies before concluding their research, and they say Portland is the place to be when it comes to pizzas. They have the results of their pizza odyssey detailed in a 1,700-page, three-volume book that will become available October 5, with a recipe manual included.
Myhrvold admits that the concept of “Best Pizza City” is a fuzzy one. However, he explained that to him it meant a city that offers a variety of pizza styles done well.
Previously a chief technology officer for the Microsoft Corp., Myhrvold, also co-author of the Modernist Bread and Modernist Cuisine, was not entirely surprised by Portland’s performance, though he admitted that it was a surprise to them just how good Portland’s pizza choices were.
Over a dozen cities were visited by Migoya and Myhrvold in their great pizza search. In addition to Portland, they went to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Detroit, New Haven, Old Forge, St Louis, Chicago, Jersey City, Philadelphia and several New York boroughs.
