Portland lights up the night next month

Once again, for the ninth year in a row, residents of Portland will have the opportunity to rail against the darkness with a Winter Light Festival in early February.

This annual event takes place across several anchor location, including World Trade Center Plaza, Pioneer Courthouse Square, Electric Blocks at Clay, and SE 2nd Street, as well as various sites throughout the city in front yards, storefront windows, and other places viewable to passersby.

Everyone is encouraged to “light up,” including by illuminating themselves, at this free, family-friendly event. Since the festival is almost entirely taking place outside, attendees are reminded to dress for Portland’s winter weather.

With the exception of the World Trade Center Plaza, and those inside festival events and exhibitions, leashed pets will be allowed; however, it is strongly suggested that they either be illuminated for their safety or left at home.

Banner printing services are often engaged by festival officials to direct and inform attendees.

Closer to the event, Google Map links will be made available to help attendees navigate their way around the Winter Light Festival, as well as a PDF map link. Art installations will be scattered throughout the city at anchor sites, as well as pop-up locations. Local food cart vendors will be offering food and hot beverages at anchor sites.

The festival runs February 2 to 10, with anchor sites primarily active on the Friday and Saturday nights within that date range.
