Inviting pollinators into a yard need not be difficult, and during a Medford area workshop, adult learners will discover how they can offer these useful creatures comfortable accommodations.
The registrants for the “Building Homes for the Birds and Bees” workshop will each be making a special house for small cavity nesting birds, such as chickadees or one for mason bees. The structures will also have space for other pollinators to find a home, and these can be hung form a branch, placed on a table top, or attached to the side of a garden shed.
The project will take about two hours to complete, and the learners can choose between a bird house or home for mason or carpenter bees. Both of these species of insects are non-aggressive and do not tend to build large colonies. Print shops can provide Copies of tip sheets for caring for these new additions to the garden, and these can be given to each person who takes part in a class like this.
Those who attend the function are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and the all of the materials will be supplied. The organizers noted that they wished to acknowledge the support they received from AARP, which provided financial support for the activity.
Talent Maker City in Talent has made plans to host this event on January 10. The fee to register is $20.
