Jerry Harrison, the co-founder of the influential rock band Talking Heads, is hosting a screening of the band’s classic concert film Stop Making Sense this January at Medford’s Holly Theatre.
The 1984 Jonathan Demme film has been restored in 4K, with a re-release by A24 hitting theatre screens. The one-night-only event celebrates the film’s 40th anniversary, which captures the Talking Heads’ performance at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood at the peak of their popularity.
Viewers can watch the performance in unprecedented clarity by lead singer David Byrne, drummer Chris Frantz, bassist Tina Weymouth and Harrison, the band’s guitarist and keyboardist.
In a recent interview, Harrison said the popularity of the film screenings he has hosted so far, including at the Alex Theater in Glendale this past fall, seems to point to a resurgence of the band among newer generations. Harrison credits the rise of music streaming services with introducing the music of Talking Heads to younger audiences.
Harrison will introduce the film and host a Q&A with audiences afterwards, sharing his point of view of what the concert was like behind the scenes.
Movie screenings like this may choose to use poster printing to promote the film throughout the community.
The screening of Stop Making Sense, hosted by one of the Talking Heads’ founding members, is happening on Tuesday, January 13 at 8:00 pm at the Holly Theatre at 226 W 6th St in Medford.
