Scarecrows started out as a method to keep birds away from ripening crops, but these works of folk art will be the centerpieces for an upcoming Medford area event.
The Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) will be making the most of the pleasant weather of early autumn by hosting its annual Scarecrow Festival. These Medford area festivities will take place at Hanley Farm in early October.
Those who come to the festival will be supplied with all the materials they need to prepare their own scarecrow, for a registration fee of $20. SOHS members will be offered a discount, and advice will be available if needed. Anyone who would like to enter their creation in the competition can do so, or they may choose to simply take it home with them.
Along with the crafting, the function will include a sneak peek inside the Hanley Home Museum. Tour guides will be on hand, and the admission fee starts at $5. There will be special fun for the younger kids. Signage for an outdoor festival or other occasion can be prepared by a banner printing company using materials that can withstand exposure to elements.
The SOHS Scarecrow Festival will be making the harvest season and the role agriculture still plays in the world on October 2. It is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
