Medford will soon be the destination for chamber music to coincide with a dinner, thanks to Jefferson Baroque Orchesta’s Telemann: Tafelmusik I at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
Patrons are encouraged to imagine themselves as “royal guests” during a “ceremonial” dinner, one of three compositions by Telemann made for such a purpose, according to organizers.
The work features two Baroque flutes, called traversi, as part of an orchestral array of chamber music. Organizers of concerts like these may choose to use flyer printing for low-cost promotion or brochure printing for audience programs.
The Jefferson Baroque Orchestra and Choir was founded in 1994 by Jim Rich. Its focus is on making performances of Baroque music from various periods historically accurate for audiences. Rich, a blacksmith, was so dedicated to historical accuracy that the orchestra still uses a kettledrum forged by him to this day. Dr. Abigail Mace has been the artistic director of the group ever since the board appointed her last year.
The Jefferson Baroque Orchestra’s performance of Telemann: Tafelmusik I is on Friday, March 7, at 7:00 pm. The performance is happening at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at N Oakdale St in Medford. There will also be performances on March 8 in Grants Pass and March 9 in Ashland. Tickets can be purchased online and cost $25 for regular, $20 for seniors, $5 for students or Oregon Trail cardholders, and it is free for those aged 18 and younger.
