Corvallis has an unusual way of welcoming the new year—people are invited to run to meet it.
The Heart of the Valley Runners are the organizers of the 15th Annual Resolution Run. Many people break those resolutions early in the year, but the motto of the event is “You Can Do It!”, perhaps to encourage people to keep the promises they made to themselves.
This year’s race continues the tradition of presenting an event that is completely free of charge. The race is a run/walk with a choice of either a 2K or a 5K course. Organizers hope everyone will come out to join with others in the community to have fun, and to develop motivation to stay (or become) active in 2024. After the run, warm beverages and tasty snacks will be provided, and these are all free. For those who would enjoy a more complicated beverage, Good Grounds will be bringing their Mobile Coffee Shop along.
The Annual Resolution Run is set for January 1, starting at 10.00am in Avery Park/Thompson Shelter. People registering on the day of the race may do so between 9.00am and 9.45am. However, organizers urge people to register online in advance.
When organizers initiate events like this, they can use banner printing to create course markers to designate the route the runners are to follow. Strollers are welcome, but officials say no bikes or dogs.
