Dance group hosts bash in Corvallis

The Corvallis West Coast Swing (CWCS) group is hosting a celebration event at Odd Fellows Hall in Corvallis this July.

The celebration is in part an acknowledgement of a change of leadership within the group. Anne, the previous lead organizer of CWCS, is moving to a different city. A group of people will take her place and help keep West Coast Swing alive in Corvallis.

The four-hour event, which will be freeform in nature and won’t involve a formal lesson ahead of time, will celebrate Anne’s several years as the main steward of the group.

People are encouraged to bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, though no nut-based snacks are permitted since some participants have allergies.

The cost of the CWCS celebration is $7-$25, based on a sliding scale.

Swing dancing, in general, was developed around the 1920s and 1930s in the United States. West Coast Swing is a modern sub-category of this dance tradition, formed over several decades. West Coast Swing is distinguished by its use of elements of other dance styles, such as the Dallas Push, the Lindy Hop, the Carolina Shag and the Houston Whip.

Dance clubs like this may choose to use flyer printing to create promotional materials, class schedules and instruction sheets.

The Corvallis West Coast Swing Celebration Bash is happening on July 11 from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
