Kalos comprises Jeremiah McLane, Ryan McKasson, and Eric McDonald. All three band members understand tradition, but also like to explore the darker, more non-traditional aspects of the genre, making their music complex, but joyful and spontaneous. They draw on American, Breton, and Celtic music, but have a sound that is entirely their own.
They are multi-instrumentalists, and all perform vocals. Jeremiah McLane plays the piano and accordion, and handles background vocals. He has a grounding in classical piano, but also studied blues and jazz as well.
Ryan McKasson does background vocals and plays the viola and fiddle. He won the US National Scottish Fiddle Championship in 1996, the youngest person to ever win the competition. In 1997, the University of Southern California awarded him a Merit Scholarship due to his viola skills.
Lead vocalist Eric McDonald also plays mandolin and guitar. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and discovered traditional music via the music scene in Boston, his hometown. He is now one of the premier accompanists in the United States, working with artists in many genres.
Hearth Music’s Devon Leger says of the group:
“This trio really shows how masterful musicians listen and play off each other."
Kalos will be at the Majestic Theatre on April 19. Organizers of events like this will often turn to printing companies that use poster printing to create advertising for the evening.
