A meeting for those interested in small farms is on the way to Corvallis.
The 2024 OSU Small Farms Conference includes a welcome address, roundtable sessions, and networking opportunities. The highlight of the day will be the series of talks given by experts on various aspects of farming.
The Small Farms Conference begins with the packet pick-up and sign-in starting at 7.30 am, followed by a welcome address and announcements. A plenary session runs from 9.00 am until 9.45 pm, followed by Session 1, which will run from 10.00 am until 11.15 am.
After a break, Session 2 runs from 11.35 am until either 12.30 pm or 1.00 pm, depending on the speaker. Lunch follows, then Session 3 runs from 2.15 pm until either 3.30 pm or 4.00 pm. The official conclusion of the event is at 5.30 pm, after a networking opportunity that will no doubt see plenty of Business Cards exchanged.
Among the featured speakers is Nick Andrews, associate professor in the Center for Small Farms & Community Food Systems. He specializes in pest management, nutrient management, cover crops, and organic vegetable production. Also present will be Melina Barker, who is the Director of the Oregon Farm To School and School Garden Network. Other experts on site include researchers, attorneys, farmers, and climate experts.
Part of the fun is relaxing with “Think with a Drink,” where participants will find both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, along with local snacks.
The conference is Saturday, February 17 at the LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University.
