Public works department in Beaverton receives national award
The American Public Works Association (APWA) has selected Beaverton’s Public Works Department for full accreditation.
Local print shops can help in spreading the word throughout a town or city about such accomplishments and their meaning for the community.
The accreditation verifies that the department fully complies with recommended practices as outlined in the Public Works Management Practices Manual of the APWA. This is the second time Beaverton has been recognized with this accreditation, with 2019 marking the first time.
Tim Elsea, director of Public Works, said that achieving accreditation illustrates how employees in the department demonstrate a consistent level of professionalism. He added that there are very high standards in the department to ensure that the residents of Beaverton receive the high-quality services they deserve.
Promoting excellence in the management and operation of a public works agency, its employees, and operations is the purpose of accreditation. Its goal is also to help the agency to continuously improve its management and operations, and to provide an objective and valid evaluation of the services offered to the public.
A four-year period is required for initial accreditation from the APWA, during which time the demonstration of continuing compliance takes place twice a year. A reaccreditation process builds on the original accreditation and encourages continuous compliance and improvements with newly identified practices.
