The annual Youth Awards Ceremony will be held by the Beaver chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at the Beaverton Public Safety Center later this month.
Among the awards to be presented at the ceremony is the DAR Good Citizen Award, Outstanding Cadet, the Youth leadership Award, and the Junior American Citizen Award. Rebecca Taylor, the honorary state agent for DAR in Oregon, said that t various committees in the organization support the DAR Youth Awards.
The Junior American Citizen Award is presented to students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Projects like short stories, photo essays or poems, designs of Stamps, and Posters and Banners, potentially with the help of local Print shops, can be entered. The Youth Leadership Award is for those in grades 5 through 11. It recognizes the patriotism, leadership, courage, service, and honor of a student. The Outstanding Cadet Award is for students in high schools and uses the same criteria as the Youth Leadership Award.
The DAR Good Citizen Award stands out from the other awards and is for seniors in high school only. A member of the counseling staff at the high school needs to recommend a student who is highly qualified and demonstrates patriotism, leadership, services, and dependability not just in school but within the community.
The DAR Youth Awards will be presented on Saturday February 8 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
