What's Happening in Beaverton, OR…

Ground has been broken on Meadowlark Place in Beaverton on S.W. Fifth Street.

This building will have 104 units with studios and single-bedroom apartments. Standing six stories tall, it is designed to house those who are 55 years of age and older with low incomes, and senior citizens who have previously been homeless.

The apartments are reserved for those earning up to 30% and 50% of the median income in the area. There will be 30 units that will include comprehensive services to keep senior residents coming out of homelessness in stable housing.

Meadowlark Place is being built by Community Partners for Affordable Housing, a non-profit organization. Rachael Duke, executive director of the organization, said the new location will have services and events not only for the older residents who will live there but also for people of all ages.

A Head Start program for early childhood development will the on the ground floor of the new building and it will have three classrooms. It will be able to accommodate 54 students and will feature a fully equipped kitchen and access to an outdoor play area. The building is also across the street from Beaverton City Park and close to the Beaverton Farmers Market and the Elsie Stuhr Center.
