Updated pump station now open in Beaverton

The Sexton Mountain Pump Station in Beaverton is now fully operational.

Renovations have taken more than a year to complete on this station, which is critical to the drinking water system of the city.

A hydropower turbine was added to the station, which is a new technology that generates clean energy at a constant rate as water moves through the system. This will enable the city to offset the high use of energy associated with the delivery of water.

News of such updates and their benefits for a city are often made known with flyer printing, especially since this affects the primary pump station in the city.

This hydropower turbine will enable the city of Beaverton to become one of the first in the state to transform its delivery system of municipal water into a generator of renewable energy power. The turbine is expected to generate well over 400 megawatt-hours of renewable and carbon-free electricity a year, which will offset close to 27% of the energy load at the Sexton Mountain Pump Station. This will save the city thousands of dollars each year for the next 50 to 100 years.

The Energy Trust of Oregon provided funds for half of the cost for the hydropower turbine in addition to the engineering and analysis work required to build the project.
