A new play structure with a pirate theme is now open at City Park in Beaverton.
The park, which is at the corner of Southwest Fifth Street and Southwest Hall Boulevard, also has slides, climbing equipment and a beaver flag on top of the mast. In addition, the Beaverton Neighborhood Association Committees planted seven new trees near the playground.
Mayor Lacey Beaty said that the ice storm last year damaged the previous play structure, so the team at Public Works put in extra time and effort to ensure the new structure would be installed as soon as possible. Beaty expressed excitement about the result and happiness that the playground will be available for families and children to enjoy for many more years.
This opening of the play structure makes way for the Beaverton Winter Lights and Tree Lighting event. This will be an evening of fun for the holiday season with crafts, vendors selling seasonal items, live performances by local artists, and activities for people of all age groups.
The lighting of the tree will take place at 7:00 pm tomorrow, December 6, with a surprise visit from Santa Claus after the tree lighting. The park will then be lit every night from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm until Friday, January 3.
Such new play structures and special events at a park in the city can be promoted throughout a community with poster printing.
