New school superintendent sought in Beaverton
An extensive search for a new superintendent of schools is beginning in Beaverton.
Founder and president of Human Capital Enterprises, Hank Harris, has been hired by the school district to help with the recruitment. To determine the criteria for the new superintendent, parents and members of the community received a survey in November. Harris’s team has created a list of attributes for the position based on the results of the survey. He said that the list covers several key themes. reflecting the major beliefs in the community.
Harris said that the major theme is based on curriculum and instructions, with being a leader centered on equity as the second most important theme. He added that the candidate should be a strategic leader and a visionary with experience in creating educational programs in such areas as dual language, early childhood development, and the arts. Finally, the person needs to be a strong communicator who has a system of inclusivity in the decision-making process. Such criteria are often made known throughout a community with flyer printing.
The recruitment process has begun and will end on Wednesday, January 26. Preliminary interviews will begin at the end of the month. Finalists will be interviewed in early March with a candidate expected to be selected by mid-March. The new superintendent will start the position sometime in July.
