The Toledo Zoo and Aquarium will have its annual Polar Paws and Santa Claws 5k in mid-December, and its annual Lights Before Christmas gets underway later this week.
Adult registration for the 5k is $45 up until race day. Swag includes insulated cups, touch screen friendly gloves, collectible medals sporting this year’s graphic design, and passes to Lights Before Christmas.
The course will take runners through west of the zoo neighborhoods, along the Tembo Trail before ending near the Dancing Lights in the zoo’s Main Plaza.
A Cub Run will offer a short in-zoo run for kids up to 12 years old. The $15 tickets include passes to the ice slide and Lights Before Christmas.
All participants are invited to run in Christmas attire, including lights accessories. Cocoa and candy canes will be distributed to runners at the finish line.
The Toledo Zoo’s Polar Paws and Santa Claws 5k will take place on December 12 beginning at 4:00 pm at the zoo, 2 Hippo Way. The Kids’ Cub Run will begin at 3:00 pm.
This week also sees the start of Lights Before Christmas, which will feature over one million lights and more than 200 illuminated animal images throughout the zoo.
The winter lights extravaganza will begin this Friday, November 19 and run through December 31. Sunday through Thursday hours will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
