Zoo Lights Before Christmas comes to Toledo

The Toledo Zoo presents its "Lights Before Christmas" until the end of December.

The Toledo Zoo, 2700 Broadway, is ablaze with over a million twinkling Christmas lights, 200 plus illuminated animal displays throughout the Zoo and its award-winning Big Tree. The Tree Lighting Ceremony will be in the Gardens this Friday, November 20, beginning at 6:00 pm.

Additional activities include ice slide rides for $3, African Animal Carousel rides for $2, and a free ice carving demonstration in the Main Plaza at 6:00 pm on Wednesdays. The traditional Santa Encounter dives will take place in the Aquarium daily at 3:30 pm and 4:15 pm until December 23.

Horse-drawn carriage rides will be new this year. They will take guests through Walbridge Park on Friday through Sunday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

The Polar Paws and Santa Claws 5K will be a 5K run/walk through the zoo, around local neighborhoods and back to the Zoo’s Main Plaza.

Swag will include technology-friendly gloves, an insulated cup featuring the Zoo’s graphic design, and entry to the Lights Before Christmas event. Commemorative finishers’ medals will go to the first 600 registrants. Swag will also go to those running in the virtual race option.

The race will begin at 4:00 pm and a Kids’ Cub Run will begin at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 13.
