University students give back to the community

Students at the University of Toledo spent Saturday, March 25 giving back to the community recently in what is heralded as the institution’s annual ‘Big Event’. The event is a student-run community service project, and the largest such project at the university.

One of the events was held at the Glenwood Community Garden, where students spread mulch. There were several dozen other projects at varying sites throughout the city as well. Students and the University could benefit from the resources of a local Print company to obtain Variable Data printing services, then create Flyers to spread across the campus each year notifying others of the upcoming events and locations.

Many students expressed great pleasure in being part of the opportunity to help give back to their community. This year, there were about 1,500 volunteers to assist in the projects. Alison Wood-Osmun, part of the Toledo Grows community garden outreach program, expressed her gratitude to the students who helped out this year.

The event included a variety of, such as window washing, painting and yard work. It is run by the universities Office of Student Involvement and Leadership which holds a variety of events throughout the year, including a Fall Day of Service last August. The mission of the group is simply to thank the residents of the Toledo, Bancroft Hills, and Secor Gardens for the support they lend throughout the year.
