Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle will be presenting, for one night only, Itzhak Perlman and the Toledo Symphony playing the music of film composer John Williams. Christian Reif will be conducting.
The evening will begin with Dvorak’s Carnival Overture and the Romeo & Juliet Overture-Fantasy by Tchaikovsky. That will be followed by the Hupfeld and Williams Arrangement, the classic ‘As Time Goes By’ from Casablanca, and Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso – an arrangement by Morricone and Williams. The next piece will be the Far and Away theme by Williams, and Out of Africa main title, which he wrote with John Barry.
The rest of the program will be all Williams. There will be themes from The Adventures of Robin Hood, Sabrina, and Schindler’s Lists. The evening will end with a Scent of a Woman tango.
Although this will be the virtuoso’s fifth performance with the symphony, he has not played with them for some time, as the last one was back in 2005. For such rare music events as this one, local music schools and associations around town sometimes get flyer printing arranged, post the information in their buildings, and distribute them to students and colleges.
Perlman will be in town November 12 at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle, 2445 Monroe Street. His performance will begin at 8:00 pm.
