Into the fall season, many individuals and local organizations are marking their Calendars for the upcoming 2017 BLADE Downtown Holiday Parade. This will be the parade’s 30th year. With over 80 organizations participating and crowds numbering more than 20,000 spectators, parade organizers tout this as the Midwest’s largest holiday parade.
Along with the traditional marching bands that have been especially selected by committee, Christmas-themed floats and equestrian units, the parade will have giant helium balloons, clowns, mascots, Shriner and Specialty units and performance groups. Many spectators will come especially to see the horses and classic cars. As always, Santa will be bringing up the rear.
The parade route will be a little different this year by passing through the Warehouse District. The parade will begin at the intersection of Jefferson and North Summit streets. It will turn left on Adams and proceed on to Huron Street. At Huron Street the procession will turn left and continue to Lafayette Street. Turning left onto Saint Clair Street, the parade will end at Monroe Street.
The 2017 BLADE Downtown Holiday Parade will step off Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 am in front of the Event Center 23 N. Summit Street. It will probably take about two hours. Those participating in the parade need to be at the staging area by 8:00 am.
