The Toledo Sister Cities International Festival is now scheduled for October. Between 2,000 and 3,000 people are expected to attend the one-day event. This year’s festival will be set up like those in previous years.
The festivities will be eight and a half hours of family-friendly international activities, martial arts demonstrations and dance, instrumental and vocal cultural performances representing Japan, China, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Tanzania, Hungary, Poland, Spain and Germany - the 10 countries in which Toledo’s sister cities are located. Other Toledo area ethnic communities have also been invited to participate.
Arts and craft vendors will be selling souvenirs and other items that will have an international flair, and food vendors will be hawking their ethnic cuisine. Alcoholic, non-alcoholic beverages and water will be available.
Language corners will be set up with little language lessons that change every half hour. New citizens will be sworn in at 11:00 am in the Naturalization Ceremony. There will be prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Short presentations at the International Forum will cover a barrage of subjects and end with short questions and answer sessions.
Program brochure printing is being done to reflect the change in date. Tickets will be $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and kids under 11 years old get in for free.
The Toledo Sister Cities International Festival will be October 24 from 11:00 am until 7:30 pm at the SeaGate Convention Center, 401 Jefferson Avenue.
