Toledo gets a taste of chili

The 26th Annual Mobile Meals’ Great Chili Cook-Off will be towards the end of March. Guests are encouraged to come hungry, and although there will not be an admission fee, they should bring money.

The competition will be divided into four categories – media, restaurant, amateur, and corporate. A total of 25 teams have signed up and are concocting their special recipes, amassing their secret ingredients, arranging banner printing, and gathering decorations for their booths.

Recipes will range from Sweet and Tangy, to Hot and Spicy, both with beans and without. This year, the event is also including vegetarian chili.

Entries will all be vying for the title of Northwest Ohio Best Chili. Regional food experts will be judging the chilies to find a a winner in the Judge’s Choice Award, and the general public will be voting for the People’s Choice Award, which will be decided by the amount of money in the contestants’ buckets at the end of the event. Chili aficionados can rent Totes for $4.

There will also be concessions such as hot dogs, beverages, and Pop’s ice cream; a bake sale offering treats to go along with the chili; a DJ for the music entertainment; and face painting.

The 26th Annual Great Chili Cook-off is scheduled for March 24 from noon until 4:00 pm at the Stranahan Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd.
