Families looking for something to do right after Christmas may enjoy The Great Art Escape.
Activities, live performances and programs – many of which will be free – are being planned for after Christmas to the end of the year.
Family workshops will have people making their own glass projects including glass blowing their own ornaments, sculpting, and painting. Pictures of the artists and their creations will go into many 2018 family Calendars.
Families can also make handmade gifts, play chess on a giant board, and try their hands at drawing. In the evenings, they can participate in the Family Flashlight Tours. Curators will give guests flashlights and take them through the museum in the dark.
Glass blowing demonstrations will be going on throughout the event. Artists will be demonstrating techniques and using hot blown glass to create winter-themed projects.
Live performances will be given during the six-day event. A glass percussion recital will feature GAPP artists Rela Percussion. These artists will be playing glass percussion instruments made in the venue’s glass residency program. There will also be free performances on the Dutch cabinet organ. Some other performers will be Aha! Indian Dance, the Ardan Academy of Irish Dance, and the Toledo International Youth Orchestra.
The Great Art Escape will be at the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe Street, from December 26 through 31 during regular museum hours. Extended hours for the holidays will be Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm.
