To pay tribute to the band leader Ralf Grugel, a major influence in Cleveland’s early Dixie Land Jazz, a new jazz festival was organized in Toledo. The new festival is called Ralph Grugel Memorial Jazz Festival or Grugelfest 2019 and will be coming to Toledo in a few weeks.
The festival will offer five New Orleans’ traditional jazz bands on two stages running for four sessions on four days. The bands this year will be Roy Rubinstein’s Chicago Six, The Yerba Buena Stompers, Toronto’s Climax Jazz Band, Dave Greer’s Classic Jazz Stompers from Dayton and Toledo’s own Cakewalkin’ Jass Band featuring vocalist Nicole Heitger.
General admission per each session will be $45 each. General admission to all sessions will be $130. The $165 V.I.P. Patron tickets will also include reserved seating at all sessions, program acknowledgements, and tickets to the Saturday Morning Patron Breakfast. Proceeds will go to Dyslexia Education Training Center.

The first session is scheduled for Friday, September 20 starting at 6:00 pm. The second will be Saturday morning on September 21 beginning at 11:00 am. The third will be that evening at 6:00 pm, and the final performance will be 11:30 am on Sunday, September 22nd. All sessions will be at the University of Toledo’s Radisson Hotel on the Science Campus of UT Health, 3100 Glendale Avenue.
