Still time to run the Cleveland Marathon at home

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon and accompanying activities have been converted from live to virtual.

This means that the runners from will run their designated distances from now until May 17 any time and at any location in the area, with Toledo sure to be popular. Some runners actually chalk up mileage on their home treadmills. They then upload their times onto the event website and wait for their swag to come in the mail. Custom finishers’ certificates can be printed when results are posted.

Swag will include a medal, a goodie bag, and a short-sleeved, tri-blend tee shirt sporting this year’s graphic design created by local artist Patrick Keller. A shirt for each distance run will have its own color and graphic design.

Registration will be $50 for the 5K, $75 for the 10K, $100 for the Half Marathon, and $110 for the Full Marathon.

The Challenge series will require runners to complete two events – either the 10K/Full, 10K/Half, 5K/Full, 5K/Half in two consecutive days. When this is completed and results have been uploaded, swag including three medals, a duffle bag, and two T-Shirts will be mailed.

Those that have already registered may opt to run their distances as a virtual race from now until May 17, or defer their registrations for 2021 or 2022.
