Stow reconstruction project nears completion

The reconstruction of Marhofer Chevrolet's dealership should be finished in a few months.

A new building has been constructed, but work is still to be done on a cul-de-sac as part of the $6m effort. Completion is scheduled for some time between March and May of 2016. Ron Marhofer, who owns the dealership, said the renovation was necessary to update the property, which dates to the 1960s.

However, some locals have said they are unhappy, because the landscaping they were promised has not been provided. Among the promises to residents was a mound of earth, five feet high, with foliage and trees to screen the dealership from surrounding homes, as well as new foliage to be planted between existing trees. Pine trees lining Thorndale Avenue were to be left in place, and the building itself was to be shorter than it is, so it could be easily visible.

Fortunately, the dealership and residents are working together to find solutions to the problems. Residents have said they are willing to consider alternatives to the original plans, such as a high fence or a combination of a smaller mound with planting on the residents' side to “soften” the appearance of the commercial property.

The Marhofer dealership might consider creating festive Banners to decorate the property and share the joy of the season.
