Stow lovebirds can get married on Valentine's Day

Stow residents who want to tie the knot or renew their vows can do so on the very special date of February 14.

According to a January 16 announcement on the city's website, Sara Drew, Stow's mayor, plans to make the city council chambers available for these special ceremonies on Valentine’s Day between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

Couples who want to get married on Valentine's need to have a valid marriage license, and must make reservations, which they can obtain by emailing or calling the mayor's office. The appointments will be handled on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and couples may either recite vows they have written themselves, or use those that the mayor's office will provide.

All couples that get married or renew their vows on this special day will receive sparkling juice and wedding cupcakes to mark the occasion. In addition, guests of the couples are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Stow is named for Joshua Stow, who came to the area in the late 1700s as a surveyor. When he saw the forests of the proposed township, he called it “one of the prettiest and most romantic spots in the Western Reserve”. With this history, it's perhaps not surprising that the city's mayor has opted to allow residents to marry on the most romantic day in the calendar.

City officials might like to create colorful Banners to hang in the chambers to celebrate the Valentine's Day ceremonies.
