The Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study Policy Committee has approved a grant of $40,000 to enable the city of Stow to study livability and connectivity in the community.
These funds will be used by the city to establish a framework for a multi-modal network of trails throughout the city to accommodate all users. This network will help to connect the city to destinations close by and within the region, and will serve all the populations of Stow, including visitors, businesses, and its various communities.
The main goal will be to develop a strategy that will develop the connections between the existing trails and bikeways and the people who use them. The city will investigate side paths and shared-use paths for the trail network in the city. The viability of placing trails within a quarter mile of every business and resident will also be explored.
Feedback and input from the community will be solicited from partners in the project several times throughout the planning process to help prioritize the important areas on which to focus. Print shops can be hired to create mailers, which residents and businesses can use as one way to garner input from the community. The plan that will result will enable the city to develop a trail network that will increase alternative options for transportation to connect people throughout the city, and provide safe and vibrant spaces for everyone.
