Porthouse Theatre opens its summer season

Porthouse Theatre, located on the Kent State campus about 15 minutes from Stow, is a summer theater that gives its performances outdoors. According to a June 6th news item, the theater is open now for the summer in its 46th year of operation.

The classic ‘My Fair Lady’ opened June 13th and runs through June 28th. The beloved story is based on the play by George Bernard Shaw, and tells of Eliza Doolittle, the cockney flower girl who learns to speak ‘genteel’ thanks to the efforts of Professor Henry Higgins. Performances are running now, with each beginning at 8pm. A matinee event is scheduled for 2pm on June 22nd

The second show on the roster is ‘Starmites’, which opens July 4th and continues through the 19th of that month. Starmites is a fantasy musical featuring ‘doo-wop’ music, and telling the story of humans and others who battle the inhabitants of ‘Innerspace’.

The final show of the season is another classic, ‘Oliver’, based on the tale by Charles Dickens. The show opens July 25th and continues through August 10th, with a preview on July 24th. Dates and times of the July and August performances are available on the theater's website.
