Phi K scheduled at local college

Locals in and around Stow can get in a little exercise while supporting a good cause.

The Akron and Kent State University chapters of Phi Delta Theta have banded together to host the second “Phi K: Race to Defeat ALS”. The 5K, open to both students and nonstudents, will make its way around the Kent State University campus.

Registration costs $25 and includes a T-shirt, water, fruit, and a raffle ticket. Those who register in groups consisting of 10 or more people will receive a $3 discount per person. Groups of 19 or more will get a $6 discount.

Raffle prizes include a worn LeBron James practice shoe, high-quality headphones, and a restaurant gift basket.

The money raised will benefit the ALS Foundation, an organization that helps fund research and treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This year, the event aims to raise $25,000.

No doubt the event’s organizers used a flyer printing service to create promotional handouts. Flyers can easily be distributed to college students and areas surrounding the campus.
Kent State University is located on 800 East Summit Street. For up-to-date information on the race, individuals can follow @RaceForACureALS on Twitter.

Participants should be set to run on April 25 at 9:00 am, with race day registration beginning at 8:00 am. To be guaranteed a shirt, registration needs to be completed prior to April 18.
