Local university collects winter clothes for the needy

Kent State University in Kent is currently holding a winter coat and clothing drive. Residents of Stow will want to help in these efforts by donating new, clean, or gently used items for people of all ages. Items needed include sweaters, hats, gloves, scarfs, and warm clothing.

Throughout the campus, there are Signs for Winter Coat and Clothing Drive and large Boxes wrapped with seasonal wrapping paper. These can be found at the Tri-Towers 24-hour area desk; the Center for Undergraduate Excellence; the University Library; and the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Local Print shops are often used to create such Signs to promote important collections.

The Winter Coat and Clothing Drive is one of the activities that is part of the events for Hunger and Homelessness Awareness at the university, which starts in the middle of this month. Clothing and coats for the winter will go to the Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which enables veterans in need, the elderly, and homeless families and individuals to have items at not cost, and to the Women’s Center Winter Warm Up Station.

The organizations on campus involved in the clothing drive include the Women’s Center, the Office of Sustainability, Kent State of Wellness, and the Community Engaged Learning at the university. The clothing drive runs through December 13.
