Stow residents will have a chance to visit Anatevka, the mythical village that Forms the setting for the classic musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, when Aurora Community Theatre presents the play later this week.
Art Suskin, the play’s director, has said the show has Jewish themes but is aimed towards everybody. Theater officials who need to publicize the show could work with a poster printing company to create pieces to be exhibited throughout the area.
‘Fiddler’ is based on Sholem Aleichem’s short stories, and is a complex musical that combines opera, drama, and ballet, with a healthy dose of comedy thrown in.
Suskin also says that he is endeavoring to make the entire theater into the town of Anatevka, in which the play is set. He hopes that audience members will feel like villagers because they will be physically part of the tale. Set designer Wes Shofner said ‘Fiddler’ is the largest production he has done to date, and he has taken a lot of inspiration for his set from the painter Marc Chagall, who was a friend of Aleichem’s.
The show opens April 25 and runs on weekends through May 17. Shows on Friday and Saturday start at 8:00 pm, Sunday afternoon shows begin at 3:00 pm (May 4 and 11), and there is an additional performance slated for Thursday, May 15, at 8:00 pm.Get a Free Quote for Forms
