Historic farmhouse in Stow region to be renovated

A farmhouse from the 19th century in Cuyahoga Falls that was scheduled to be demolished will be renovated later this year. Residents of nearby Stow may be interested in visiting the house once it is restored.

The Keyser-Swain-Best farmhouse on West Bath Road was built in 1846 and has had multiple additions built since then. Work on the farmhouse, which is owned by the city, will take place in stages. Some of the additions will be removed first, and water infiltration issues will be addressed. Following this, the exterior will be renovated, which will bring the farmhouse to its original footprint of 24 feet by 16 feet. More details about such projects are often made available to the community with brochure printing.

A Continuous Improvement Plan was published by the Parks and Recreation Department of the city early last year, which comprehensively examined the system of parks in the city. It was then recommended that the farmhouse be demolished due to issues of safety.

The Friends of Keyser-Swain Farmhouse was formed by a group of concerned citizens who looked to preserve the farmhouse. There were four experts on historic buildings who determined that the farmhouse could be salvaged. The group then developed a proposal to restore the building, with the city assuming the responsibility for the restoration process.
