Disabilities board to move to Stow area

Cuyahoga Falls will soon be the new home for the Summit County Developmental Disabilities (DD) Board. Those from the city and neighboring Stow may benefit from the 100 jobs this move will bring to the community.

Business card printing companies in such cities and towns may also benefit from the new jobs.

The community development director of the city, Diana Colavecchio, expressed her excitement about the move. The annual economic impact of these 100 new jobs is expected to be close to $15m.

As part of the plan, Cuyahoga Falls will purchase 11 parcels of land next to the new location at a price of $1.7m to allow for constructing a parking lot with 150 spaces. There are buildings on these parcels that will need to be demolished, at a cost of $800,000. The parking lot is expected to be completed by November 2020.

Superintendent of Summit DD, John Trunk, said the existing building on the site will be renovated for the 100 people that will be working there. Those who will be working at the site will be support staff, skilled, professional, and administrative workers. It is expected that they will be able to occupy the space in the middle of 2021.

Trunk added that the central location of the building for the Board’s clients and its close access to state Route 8 are what make it an ideal space.
