Construction begins in Stow on county-wide fiber ring
The Summit Connects project is now under construction. This project will link 31 communities in Summit County, including the city of Stow, to a fiber network of public safety that will enhance the security and quality of public safety operations and other important services from the government.
Mayor of Stow, John Pribonic, said that construction is beginning in Stow and then will move to Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake. After that, the fiber ring will be installed clockwise throughout the county. The construction contractor is Henkels & McCoy and QCI is the construction manager and inspection services firm.
A Good Neighbor Commitment will be upheld while work is being done in Stow. This means that the impact on traffic will be minimized, safety for the public will be a priority, communication with residents will be maintained, and the construction areas will be restored once completed. Flyer printing can be used to keep residents informed of the progress of such projects.
The Development Finance Authority has received a grant from Summit County and will be leading the construction and installation of this fiber ring that will cover 130 miles. It will also own it once it is completed. Summit County will cover all additional costs, and the county and Fairlawn will be responsible for maintaining, operating, and repairing the fiber ring.
