Third grade teacher secures a book per month for students

This year, every third grade student at Piqua’s Springcreek Elementary School will take home a book of their own each month during the school year as a result of effort put forth by third grade teacher Michelle Robbins.

Inspired by other teachers on Facebook, Robbins, who is teaching third grade this year for the first time in her 16-year teaching career, decided to try and supply a book to her students at least every quarter. She sought donations from sponsor to cover the expenses of providing each student with Scholastic Book Club Books of their own to take home.

In the end, Robbins was able to secure enough money to purchase each member of her class a book for every month of the school year. Moreover, by partnering with eight other teachers, it was possible to provide Springcreek Elementary’s whole third grade population with a book per month. The Scholastic Books cost $1 each and are listed in the Scholastic Catalogue by grade level.

Many companies utilize catalog printing services yearly, while others may have their Catalogs printed several times throughout the year.

Robbins said that many who supported the project were prompted to do so from their own positive experiences with the Scholastic Book Club. From the favorable reception she received from donors, she has hopes of continuing the book project for future classes as well.
