What's Happening in Piqua, OH…

Piqua Commission gives thumbs up for townhouses

Approval was recently given by the Piqua City Commission on a resolution to allow new townhomes to be constructed on Piqua’s South Main Street.

Chris Schmiesing, the Piqua director of Community and Economic Development, explained the steps involved in the construction of the new homes, which includes the relocation of the corporate office for Piqua Battery and demolition of the building. Schmiesing said:

“What is being proposed is, after the relocation of the existing office at the corner of Wood and Main Street, the lot would then be cleared and assembled along with the other lots I mentioned, and that would allow for private development interests to be able to construct 30 new market-rate townhomes on that property.”

Banner printing services are used on development sites to identify what is being built as well as advertising when units will be available for purchase or lease.

The approval given by the Commission on November 18 was just the first step of the process. The new development will be subject to not just the Piqua City Commission approval but the Planning Commission as well as having to meet a number of other developmental and regulatory standards.

The anticipated price point for each townhouse is $300,000, which is concerning to some locals who feel there is a greater need for more affordable housing. However, the presence of these homes could make the local housing market more competitive which might lower the prices of other homes for sale within the city.
