Piqua Community Farmers Market will be opening soon, and a brand new Downtown Calendar of Events summer offering is on the horizon.
Just in time for Memorial Day weekend the city’s Farmers’ Market will open next Thursday, May 27, with many of the long-time vendors on hand, as well as several new ones. A variety of contests and special events are scheduled for the Market.
On June 10, the first-ever Strawberry Jam Contest will take place, and a couple of weeks later on June 24, a Chocolate Chip Cookie Contest will be held with both youth and adult categories. A cupcake decorating contest is scheduled for Thursday, July 22.
Piqua’s yearly Biggest Tomato Contest will take place August 26 and is open to red, yellow, and green tomatoes. The annual Salsa Smackdown will be on September 9. Judging will take place in three categories: hot, mild and most unusual. Finally, the traditional end of the season Apple Pie Contest is scheduled for September 30.

A new event this year in Piqua will be Third Thursdays, which will include food trucks, live music and a variety of family-friendly activities on Market Street. June 17 will be the first Third Thursday of the summer and this month’s theme will be Superhero. Everyone adults and children alike are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero. The band Spittin’ Image will be performing in the gazebo.
