Strawberry Festival cancelled but Strawberry Jam still a go

Earlier in April, the decision was made to not hold the annual Troy Strawberry Festival this year, but the events board of directors has recently announced that the ‘Strawberry Jam’ celebration will still take place.

This will be the second year running that the risk of COVID-19 has caused the Strawberry Festival to be cancelled. The festival’s Board of Directors immediately began looking for ways to reorganize the Strawberry Jam once it was announced that the festival was once again not taking place.

This event held in nearby Troy is popular with both Piqua citizens and enterprises. Such festivals present promotional opportunities for small businesses and non-profits, who frequently seize the opportunity to pass out Promotional Products customized with their name.

Given Governor DeWine’s simplified health orders, the board, the City of Troy, and Miami County Public Health began a discussion of holding a modified Strawberry Jam. A decision was made to host the event on June 4 and 5, since the 'Jam' needs fewer financial and human resources to take place.

Linda Roth, a board chairwoman, explained:

“It was the intent of the board to have some type of event that weekend. We understand the importance of the festival to the non-profits, local business and the community.”

The festival board wishes to reassure area residents that all suggested COVID-19 precautions will be followed, and encourages them to attend and help area non-profits raise money.
