Returning Piqua native bringing Southern cooking home

After starting a catering business and operating Florida restaurants, Piqua High School graduate Tommy McCoy is turning his entrepreneurial spirit and expertise in cooking Southern foods to Piqua.

McCoy manages and co-owns Sneakers on the Green and Sneakers Sports Grille, in addition to operating and owning McCoy’s Comfort Foods, LLC. This summer he will open Hannah’s Southern Bistro in the Miami Valley Centre Mall. Promotional Pens are among the most effective means of bringing attention to a new enterprise like this.

The Piqua native has also lived in Texas as well as Florida. Among the Southern food favorites he intends to bring to Ohio are collard greens, catfish nuggets, pulled pork nachos, and buffalo shrimp. An exotic option is gator bites, which are hand-breaded freshly cut gator tail, seasoned and accompanied by a “swamp sauce.”

The restaurant will provide room service specials such as prime rib dinner, a Mahi Reuben, Mahi Mahi, and Southern fish and chips for the Comfort Inn, which is also on the mall property.

McCoy says he will move into the mall’s food court in June with anticipation of opening between mid-July and early August. He plans to host some pop-up events prior to opening and a soft opening limited to local first responders.

The Bistro is being named for McCoy’s oldest daughter; he hopes one day to have enough restaurants or other businesses to name for the rest of his seven kids.
