Replacement of Miami County bridges goes forward in 2020

The Board of Miami County Commissioners have recently been advised by Paul Huelskamp, Miami County Engineer, concerning the ongoing maintenance of the county’s 342 bridges. This included reporting on the projects that were accomplished in 2019 and the ones that are due to be tackled in 2020.

Flyer printing services are sometimes used by municipalities to give residents a heads-up about road construction.

The parts of the annual report affecting Piqua residents are the current and upcoming projects that can potentially influence their travel plans. Two major bridges are slated to be replaced in 2020 along with three smaller bridges.

One of the two major bridge replacements is Croft Mill Road Bridge, which is totally federally funded. Its painted steel trusses are to be replaced with ones of galvanized steel. Work is expected to start this summer and be completed by at least October 20.

The other major project is the replacement of the Troy-Urbana Road Bridge, which is to bid out in June. The Ohio Public Works Commission will be funding around $300,000 with the county contributing about $150,000.

The three other bridge projects include the Harrison Street Bridge, which is underway and should be finished by July at a cost of $150,000. The Markley Road Bridge will get new abutments and prestressed concrete beams at an estimated cost of $160,000, and the Perry Road Bridge, at a cost of $95,000, will receive new abutments and county-poured beams.
