The company is making an approximately $1 million investment in order to increase its coffee roasting operation as well as add space to expand chocolate production. Wilson Reiser, Winans president explained the benefits of the second location:
"It opens up space in our current facility so we can expand our chocolate operations and keep that in one place."
Changing location or opening a new facility frequently requires working with printing services to acquire signage, Menus and business Stationery.
To be called “The Roastery at Winans”, the second facility will be located at 222 Spring Street in what was formerly an auto repair shop. An adaptive reuse of the site will turn the location into a dedicated coffee roasting facility that will also be used for storage by the Piqua-based Winans company.
Presently Winans is using its building at 310 Spring Street as both its headquarters and as a production area for chocolate making and roasting coffee. With the new building taking over the coffee roasting, chocolate operations will expand in the 14,000-square-foot-facility.
Winans jumped into the U.S. specialty coffee movement in its early days and maintains direct-trade relationships with suppliers. The company offers fair-trade certified coffees.
The company, which opened began chocolate-making operations in 1961, has opened 20 locations throughout the Miami Valley and beyond.
