The city of Piqua is carrying out an initiative designed to bring improvements to its streets and alleys.
The 2025 Pavement Program, as reported by Miami Valley Today, will be focusing on the pavement and resurfacing of streets and alleys within the city along with curb ramp replacements. The specific alleys, streets and curbs to receive the improvements were selected from information gleaned from last year’s Pavement Condition Index report.
The City of Piqua is responsible for almost 111 centerline miles of publicly owned roadway, which is the equivalent of 18.6 million square feet or .67 square miles of pavement. Annual maintenance and rehabilitation of Piqua’s pavement network is conducted on streets in poor condition as well as those in good condition ensuring they remain so.
In addition to road signage, city and state highway departments sometimes use flyer printing services distributed locally to make the public away of potential traffic delays due to roadwork.
The Pavement Program works to maintain a 70 or better on the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), which is rated as good to excellent condition.
Maintenance work has already commenced on alleys approved for the program. The installation of curbs at specific sidewalk crossings and intersections, which are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards will begin in June and continue through August. In early September pavement surfacing will be started.
