Miami County Courthouse Plaza project dedicated

Piqua residents working at the Miami County Courthouse, or those who are there to conduct business, will now be able to enjoy the completed and recently dedicated $3.6m courthouse plaza.

Garmann-Miller Architects and Engineers were responsible for the new courthouse plaza design, which was created to reflect the structure’s 1880s origin. The project’s first phase was handled by Delphos, Ohio-based E. Lee Construction Inc., which was the demolition of the site prior to the new construction. Phase Two of the project, including the construction of the newly designed plaza, was completed by Outdoor Enterprise of Casstown, Ohio.

Printing services can prove beneficial at every stage of a construction project; for example, the signage they provide can identify the company doing the work and promote it.

Reasoning for construction of a new plaza was not limited to aesthetics, with practical reasons involved as well. Over time, some of the tunnels leading from the power plant across the street to the courthouse were caving in. The tunnels were there to provide heating and air conditioning to the historic courthouse. Moreover, there were leaks from the two plaza fountains, as well as tripping dangers from deteriorating steps across the plaza.

The new plaza features lighting to illuminate the historic architecture of the courthouse at night and improved security lighting. Stones from the 1850s jail were used for plaza seating and a new fountain on the southside of the courthouse.
