Holiday home tour to feature eight local properties

Once again, the Piqua-Caldwell Holiday Tour of Historic Homes is scheduled for December, with a limit of 300 tickets available.

Eight properties will be on this year’s tour, all but one of which is within the Piqua-Caldwell Historic District (PCHD). This event is a self-guided walking tour in the historic district’s southern end. According to Don Smith, PCHD president, three of the locations are home to businesses. Elaborating on the tour, Smith said:

“The district will again be ‘Illuminating the Night’. Residents within the district are encouraged to place luminaries alongside their sidewalks to enhance the holiday tour. Whether walking or driving through the district that evening, tourists will be struck by the holiday spirit.”

Annual seasonal events are often promoted with the help of poster printing services. Snacks will be offered by hosts at each stop.

Among this year’s featured homes is the Anderson-Bennett House, which was built in 1869 and is currently owned by Stacy and Benny Scott. It serves as the family’s McDonalds franchise headquarters. This house has been referred to in old newspaper articles as a “mecca” for culture in Piqua.

Elsewhere, two stops on the tour are churches – St. James Episcopal on High Street and Westminster Presbyterian Church on Ash Street.

The Holiday Tour takes place from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, December 9. Tickets cost $25 per person and can be purchased at Readmore’s Hallmark on North Main Street, or online.
