Dog owners rejoice after license extension

Piqua’s dog-owning residents, as well as others in Montgomery County, can hold onto their money a little longer due to the license deadline being moved back several months.

Karl Keith, the auditor for Montgomery County announced on January 29 that dog owners will, without penalty, be able to buy their 2021 dog licenses through July 1. Typically, purchasing a license on or after February 1 would result in a penalty that would double the fee. This year, however, thanks to Ohio legislators, dog owners have through July 1 to purchase licenses without penalty.

Keith was quoted as saying:

“We know that sometimes people need just a little more time. I’m happy this change gives our dog owners extra time to buy their license without penalty.”

The use of poster printing services can prove beneficial in reminding the public when state and local taxes, as well as various licenses, are due.

Three ways exist for obtaining dog licenses: owners can pay online at the Montgomery County website, download an application from the county website and mail it in with their payment, or buy the license in person at the Animal Resource Center or County Administration Building.

License sale proceeds go to the care of stray and lost animals via the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center. License costs are $24 for unaltered dogs, and $20 for those that have been spayed or neutered.
