A new Alter G weightless treadmill has been added to the equipment at University Hospital (UH) Parma Medical Center to help people recovering from leg injuries.
This treadmill will allow patients recovering from injuries and operations to return to upright activity faster and earlier than with a traditional treadmill. The benefits of a quicker recovery include decreasing swelling and atrophy of the muscles. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about the features and benefits of such new devices.
The new treadmill is in Medical Arts Center 4 in the physical therapy suite. A donation of $45,000 from the Parma Hospital Health Care Foundation paid for the treadmill. The Foundation has long provided financial support to the hospital for services that benefit patients.
Dr. Jared Levin, an orthopedic surgeon at UH Parma Medical Center and the team physician for the Cleveland Monsters hockey team, said that he had been looking at the Alter G for quite some time, having had experience with the weightless treadmill at other locations of University Hospital, including several health centers and UH Rehabilitation Services in Avon.
Levin added that the Alter G takes up less space and is more efficient than weightless treadmills used in water, and has a video component which aids in gathering information so as to create treatment programs.
