The Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County is hosting free training to teach local community members s range of de-escalation techniques to help them deal with individuals experiencing mental illness or who are intoxicated.
The skills taught at this 32-hour course are extensive and helpful to individuals who may interact with this subset of the population, particularly as rates of mental illness continue to rise across the country. As such, it may be perfect for Corporate Gifts or training to specific members of the community.
It is important to note that this course is meant for community members, but not members of the law enforcement community, who will likely need more specialized training in order to better manage this community.
Items taught will include:
• A comprehensive review of mental illnesses and substance use disorder
• Skills related to situational awareness and safety
• Overview of the Cuyahoga County Diversion Center
• Specific strategies for de-escalation
• Legal issues and implications related to mental illness
This free course will be held from July 25 to 28, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on each day. The event will be held in the Tri-C Western Campus - Public Safety Training Center, Room 212, located at 11000 W. Pleasant Valley Road in Parma.
The organizers have stressed that those interested must attend all four days of training in order to complete the course.
